TheThe Lily is a beautiful flower, with lots of colours and some with fabulous fragrance

The  Lily has large prominent flowering heads. Lilies are viewed with respect in many cultures for their beauty, meaning, and religious context too. The lily mainly grows in the northern hemisphere, where the temperature range is correct for them, and can be found in the subtropics too. There is also mention of lilies in Egyptian times, which stretches back more than 2000 years.

True Lilies range in height from two to six feet. The flowers tend to be large, with many being fragrant varieties out of the 111 identified varieties, and come in a myriad of different colors including pinks, yellows, purples, whites, oranges, and reds. Most lilies are more prolifically seen flowering in the late summer. However, because of technology and massive greenhouses in Holland. The Dutch make the lily available throughout Europe and available virtually all year round. Albeit, there are strains of lilies, where the flower has adapted to many lower temperature countries and flower much later and from late summer into the autumn, see dwarf stems with rosette leaves with the stems starting to elongate.

The Lily is a very recognizable flower with its trumpet flower being one of the world’s most easily recognizable flowers. Lilies are a beautiful gift as a bouquet, and a good florist will make a fabulous presentation of a beautiful flower, which is very long-lasting, as will the foliage be. Almost every flower we come across has picked up meanings from different periods in time. The symbolism in many ways shines through the flower, depending on the recipients, thoughts, and feelings, which hopefully align with the giver's intended feelings. There are those of course who purchase them for themselves, but in the situation of giving or presenting from one person to another. The symbolism is fairly straightforward, as to what the flower represents. The lily in Victorian times. and back through Roman and Egyptian culture have exuded purity, love, devotion as well as fertility. The lily carries beautiful pure innocence and good pure thought. It is a flower that perhaps carries the symbolism of a new start or indeed rebirth. The lily is an allrounder, as far as thoughts and feelings. As an example, the Romans used the lily flowers as the filler in pillows, which indicates purity and perhaps romance, as a red lily has a romantic meaning, whilst it is used as a sign of friendship and is used prolifically in weddings and in times of loss. It is a flower that carries an underlying theme of pure love, thoughtfulness and probably because of the fragrance of some varieties and overall beauty has never managed to be pigeonholed because it is a flower for all occasions.
