There is a Dahlia Flower for Everyone and Every Occasion, with its Beauty, Scent, Colour, and Complexity

The Dahlia is a beautiful flower, that brings joy, and a smile, as well as love, which in one colour is tinged with sadness.

The Dahlia is a summer flower, that arrived from Mexico to Europe in the early 18th century of which, there are approximately 40 original species found across South America and then the botanists and growers started to create multiple varieties from 6 species in Europe.

The Dahlia is rich in history and was adored by the Aztecs, but not much is known about the flower before the 6th Century.

The Dahlia is a tremendous cultivar, and through cross-breeding by botanists and cultivators have created over 50,000 varieties of Dahlia in 19 different forms. It truly is an amazing flower.

The water lily and the peony, are further examples of the evolution of cross-breeding the dahlia! The main colours of the Dahlia are red, yellow, orange, purple, Crimson, pink, and white, and there are multi-coloured varieties as well.

The meanings of the Dahlias flower in brief emanated mainly from the Victorian era with green meaning positive change, with yellow and orange both meaning joyfulness and happiness. White, as in so many other flowers, symbolises purity and is widely used for occasions such as weddings and birth celebrations. Red is a powerful colour that brings with it love and strength. Pink and purple are associated with kindness and friendship, with purple signifying, that of high regard, which is not the same as red or crimson. Crimson indicates a loss. Although there are no black Dahlias, crimson is as deep as it goes.

There are also a multitude of rich scents when in flower. Some have a Jasmine-style scent, through to sweet pea and anywhere in between. There is no definitive scent, however, some people buy them for their appearance, which is vibrant, some for their rich scents and some because of the combination.
Altitude plays a part in which species thrive and where they do so.

There is a Dahlia for everyone, with such a huge number of varieties and forms of flowers that have evolved from the original species, which were originally cultivated at altitude in Mexico.
