When you purchase from me to deliver to family and loved ones, you are dealing directly with the local florist. I don’t do postal flowers. I have a van with a driver who delivers the orders I receive and I make and create.

My only membership is with the Good Florist Guide, which is by invitation only and only the top 1% of all florists in the UK will be invited. I am an award-winning florist and I originate from the Rhondda. I know there are many large families, and it certainly wouldn’t surprise me if generations of bygone years have maintained their relationships with the modern Welsh generations.

The reason for this blog is to cut out the relay services and the order gatherers who take around 30% of the total sales value. It means that the gift sent from the USA to Wales is going to be at least 30% less and probably a lower quality of flower stem. I only purchase the best quality flowers available in the market and I am a florist with over 25 years of experience. I am a general florist, which means I have to be good at all aspects of floristry.

I had read about the growth of Welsh Societies and their beginnings with Philadelphia being the oldest in the USA. I thought, why am I not offering my services directly? The sender and receiver of floral gifts are both going to receive far better value for money, better quality, and more creative floristry.

One of the most prominent links between the USA and Wales can be traced back to Philadelphia to the Welsh society, which initially was set up to help feed the poor initial tranche of Welsh migrants that arrived in America at the end of the 18th Century. The Welsh Society of Philadelphia is the oldest Welsh Society in the United States of America. The Welsh Society of Philadelphia laid down a framework that was replicated where “Little Pockets of Welshness” began, being the start of a framework around the world for new Welsh immigration communities around the world. It can be noted that very few wealthy people arrived anywhere in America with most Welsh escaping poverty in Wales to perhaps a better life across the Atlantic. These initial Welsh immigrants laid down the foundation for future generations to move to the USA with an infrastructure in place to nourish new arrivals. The Welsh Societies grew on a global basis as migration became more prominent.

Then came the spread of Welsh culture within these global pockets of “Welshness”, as Welsh migrants got jobs, started businesses, made families, and became citizens of their new countries. This was led by their national anthem and language. It has to be said that among all UK national anthems, “Land of My Father” is without doubt the most emotionally evocative. St David’s Day is well-supported within American Welsh population.
